Footsteps in the sand are being washed away by the rhythms of the waves in the beautiful Outer Banks, Corolla, NC.
This particular photo, which really has nothing dramatic about it, is probably one of my personal favorites. The peaceful nature of the waves, the summer sunlight sparkling on the bubbles in the surf, the nearly cloudless blue skies … all represent calm and serenity and peace to me. The one exception to the quiet simplicity of the scene is the footprints in the foreground … footprints being washed away. I think they make a great metaphor for why we love the ocean … and nature. The footprints could represent our worries … which, in time, get washed away … and most especially as we stand before the power of Mother Nature … at the beach.
